Understanding Upper Crossed Syndrome: Identify the Imbalance, Correct the Pattern

  • LIVE-STREAM Eastern Time (map)

Postural dysfunction in the neck, shoulders, and upper back can create movement problems that extend far beyond what is immediately visible. Upper Crossed Syndrome is a common pattern of muscular imbalance that can contribute to altered posture, restricted mobility, compensatory movement, and recurring musculoskeletal complaints.

In this clinically focused seminar, chiropractors will learn how to recognize the characteristic pattern of Upper Crossed Syndrome, identify the underlying muscular dysfunction, and develop targeted strategies to improve posture, movement, and function.

Participants will explore the relationships between muscle tightness, weakness, inhibition, and overactivity and how these imbalances can influence the cervical spine, thoracic spine, shoulders, and overall biomechanics.

What You'll Learn

  • Recognize Upper Crossed Syndrome — Identify the characteristic postural changes and muscular imbalances associated with this common dysfunction.

  • Evaluate Posture and Movement — Develop a systematic approach to assessing head, neck, shoulder, and upper-back positioning, mobility, stability, and muscle function.

  • Understand the Muscular Imbalances — Examine how tight, shortened, inhibited, and weakened muscles contribute to dysfunctional movement patterns.

  • Connect Dysfunction to Biomechanics — Understand how these imbalances may affect cervical and thoracic mechanics, shoulder function, and overall movement efficiency.

  • Identify Contributing Factors — Learn to recognize postural habits, movement patterns, and other factors that may contribute to or perpetuate dysfunction.

  • Develop Targeted Treatment Strategies — Explore how chiropractic care, stretching, strengthening, corrective exercise, and supportive soft-tissue approaches can be incorporated into patient care.

  • Apply Corrective Exercise Principles — Learn strategies designed to improve muscle activation, mobility, postural control, and functional movement.

  • Improve Patient Education — Provide patients with practical strategies they can use outside the office to reinforce treatment goals and support lasting improvements.

Take Your Upper-Body Assessment to the Next Level

Rather than simply treating the area where a patient experiences discomfort, this seminar encourages chiropractors to look at the larger postural and biomechanical picture. Understanding the muscular relationships associated with Upper Crossed Syndrome can help practitioners identify contributing factors and develop more individualized approaches to care.

Dr. Glenn R. Brown has more than 22 years of private practice experience and has remained actively involved in chiropractic education and mentorship throughout his career. He has lectured on behalf of University of Bridgeport, Texas Chiropractic College, Sherman College of Chiropractic, and Life University, sharing his clinical knowledge and practical experience with chiropractic students and practicing chiropractors.

Dr. Brown has also served as a field doctor and preceptor for students from Palmer College of Chiropractic and Sherman College of Chiropractic. During his final two terms at the Palmer Clinic, he supervised chiropractic student externs through the Gold Coat Program, beginning his involvement in chiropractic education and mentorship.

His commitment to education began with the Chiropractic Fellowship of Pennsylvania and has continued through professional lectures, seminars, and presentations for chiropractors, students, patients, and the public.

Dr. Brown believes that educating patients, mentoring future chiropractors, and sharing clinical knowledge are among the most rewarding opportunities in the chiropractic profession.

Zoom will have documented the time you were logged in, and it also lets us know if you experienced any technical or electrical outages or issues. It also tells us if you just left the room on your own preference. You will get the number of hours you were logged in.

If we have technical or electrical outages: we will email you to let you know what’s happening. This is rare, and usually only happens when there are strong storms in the area of the instructor. In most cases, the instructor goes to his office/home or to a local hotel to reconnect. You will be disconnected if this happens, so check your email for any word from us on what is happening.
